Lenexa's newer streets are tuned to earth tones and dark trim, and bare silver mesh fights that. Coat the wire black or brown and the fence stops competing — it drops back into the beds, the tree line, or the water behind it. On a lot the neighbors can see, that's the whole difference between a fence you register and one you never do.
Price out a long run and chain link wins going away. Nine-gauge galvanized sits near $12 to $18 a foot in the ground; cedar asks about twice that, black ornamental more again. Wrap a Logistics Centre building, a business-park lot, or a deep back yard and the call gets made on the tape measure, well ahead of any warranty talk.
We don't footing chain link any lighter than cedar. From there the fabric comes tight on come-alongs, ties off at every post, and rides tension wire along the top and the bottom.

The lots grade well here, but dig down and it's the same stubborn KC clay, and fast building leaves a lot of new yards shedding water poorly. Our answer is depth against the freeze-thaw plus a coated jacket on any low run, so the steel meets its water sealed instead of bare.
Wire gauge is the first thing we pin down. Residential work is 9-gauge — the dog runs and service lines tucked behind Lenexa's newer homes. Step up to 6-gauge for a distribution perimeter or a business-park yard that takes real traffic. Eleven-gauge stays for the light stuff, a garden cage or a seasonal pen. THE CONTAINMENT JOB
Containment is what puts most of Lenexa's chain link in the ground — a dog kept behind a modern home, a child kept off a subdivision's detention pond — and on lots that grade well but drain slow, the bottom of the fence is where that promise is kept or broken. Four things settle whether the line really holds; gauge is just the first of them.
A serious animal — one that throws its weight at a corner and paces the line all day — needs 9-gauge, not the light 11-gauge meant for a vegetable patch. Then height does the rest of the work: four feet stops most, five or six the ones that jump. Lenexa's tidy grading mostly takes care of itself, which frees us to spend the attention on sizing the fence to the actual dog behind it.
A detention basin needs a fence, and coated chain link is the tool made for it. These subdivisions are laid out around on-site ponds, and the run that keeps a child or a dog clear of one has to vanish against the water, track the bank down to the waterline without leaving a gap, and shut with a self-latching gate at the access. Nothing else on the list does that job as cleanly, and it's one we set across these neighborhoods all the time.
The bottom of the fence is the weak point on a slow-draining new lot, so that's what we armor. Left bare, galvanized surrenders at ground level — thinning and corroding exactly where the runoff collects. Posts go 36 inches down, and on those low stretches we switch to coated wire so a jacket, not the weather, stands in the standing water. The mesh keeps its tension from the dirt on up instead of unraveling there.
None of it has to read as a compromise. In a neighborhood built on earth tones, a coated black or brown line folds into the beds, and a set of woven slats brings roughly three-quarters cover to the same fence when you want some screen. Short of ripping it out for cedar you'd be back staining every couple of years, it's the cheapest way to make a working run look chosen instead of settled for.

OUR PROCESS
We meet you on the property, run the tape, and figure out up front whether you're looking at a 9-gauge residential line, a coated fence along a pond bank, or a 6-gauge commercial perimeter. Gates, terminals, coating, tension wire — all of it lands itemized on a written estimate inside the week.
The 811 locate goes in first and the corners get set. On a Lenexa lot we also read the water — which stretch of a new yard drains poorly and wants coated wire at the base, and how the line walks down a detention bank to meet the pond. We don't turn a shovel until you've signed off on the layout.
Line posts drop 36 inches into wet concrete; the terminals at every corner, end, and gate go heavier on bell-bottom footings with truss-rod bracing. We give the footings a day or two to cure, then pull the mesh tight with come-alongs, tie it at each post, and thread tension wire top and bottom.
